Avatar Paragraph

Hello, my name is Billy Bob, Jr. also known as Matthew. What does ‘discovery’ mean to me? My cover for my portfolio is Jonas and I building our Inators. I liked when we built our inator. We called it the Back-in-Time Inator. Jonas and I had a good time. That is what ‘discovery’ means. I think it is cool to be in the Discovery Center.

PROBLEM:

How Do We Build a Catapult?

ASK:

What is Our Challenge?

The Angry Bird Competition is on … Angry Bird and Piggy Friends unite! To retrieve your stolen eggs, Angry Birds, your team will need to build a catapult with only the materials provided to you, as outlined in the following steps of this “Small Group Challenge: Marshmallow Catapults”:

Challenge: Each group will design and build a marshmallow catapult using the following materials: 1 meter of masking tape; 2 plastic cups; 4 rubber bands; 2 plastic spoons; 2 paper clips; 15 cm x 15 cm piece of cardboard; large (standard size) and small (mini size) marshmallows to launch.
Goal: Launch a marshmallow at least 5 meters (in the air) and not outside of a ½ meter width.

A catapult is a simple machine that used heavy objects to fire at the enemy. One of them gets its energy being generated by a rope. Another way it gets generated is by humans. Things I would use to build a catapult are: wood, duct tape, paper, sticks, straws, marshmallows, glue, string, weights, scissors, spoons, and wheels.

What are Some Solutions?

What is the Best Possible Solution?

Why did Our Team Choose This Solution?

Some solutions were the mangonel, ballista, and the trebuchet. We chose Ella’s catapult; it was the Mangonel. Our team chose this because we thought it would shoot the farthest.

What worked was when we used our finger to launch the marshmallow, it went about 4 meters. What didn’t work was when we used a rubber band and pulled it back, it only went like 0.5 to 2.5 meters. What could work is if we had more time to work on these things. The challenges that we faced were when we cut the spoon so that it had to be good.

What works, what doesn't work, and what could work better from Our Testing?

What are We going to do to address the Challenges We Faced with Our Construct?
